Compliance settings control how screening works for your whole organisation: which screening modules run, how strict the matching is, and how ongoing monitoring reaches you by email.

To open them, go to **Settings** and choose **Compliance**. Settings are organisation-wide: a change you make applies to all users in your organisation, and only administrators can edit them.

Most settings affect **newly run or rescored checks only**. Existing results are not updated retroactively.

## Ongoing monitoring

Ongoing monitoring re-screens the entities in a monitored compliance check and emails subscribers when new hits are found. Monitoring itself is switched on per check — see [Setting up your first portfolio](/articles/setting-up-your-first-portfolio) — while this setting governs the alert emails of every monitored check in your profile.

**Include hits already marked as false positive in alert emails** is off by default. Hits assessed as false positive, whether by AI or by a reviewer, and discarded hits are left out of alert emails. Switch it on to receive every new hit. Excluded hits remain visible in the compliance check itself, and a hit that is later re-assessed as a real match is picked up again by the next alert.

## Screening modules

Six modules make up a compliance check. Each shows whether it is enabled, and the page shows how many are active.

| Module | What it screens | Shown on results as |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Sanctions | International sanctions lists | Sanctions |
| PEP | Politically exposed persons and their associates | PEP |
| Adverse Media & Enforcements | Negative news and enforcement actions | Adverse Media & Enforcements |
| Linked / Owned Entity | Government relationships and state ownership | Government Linked Entity |
| Industry Risk | Standard industry risk classification | Activity |
| World Risk | Country and geopolitical risk indicators | Country |

Which modules are available to your account is managed by Business Radar. Administrators can switch **Industry Risk** and **World Risk** on or off themselves; to change the availability of the others, contact support.

### Sanctions

* **Name-match threshold**: the minimum name similarity a record must reach before it is passed to AI verification, on a scale from 60% (Broad) to 100% (Exact), with a system default of 75%. Higher values pass fewer, closer matches; lower values widen the net. This is not the same as the confidence percentage shown on a result, which the AI assigns after a hit is verified — the threshold only decides which candidates reach that step.

* **Sanctions lists**: every list can be switched on or off individually. Each shows its source, the number of listings, and when it was last updated.

### PEP

*   **Name-match threshold**: as above, on a scale from 50% to 100%.

* **PEP tiers**: choose which tiers are included. Disabled tiers are skipped in new checks.

    * **Tier 1 — national**: heads of state, ministers, national parliaments.

    * **Tier 2 — regional**: regional government and senior regional officials.

    *   **Tier 3 — local / state-owned enterprise**: local officials and state-owned enterprise leaders.

    * **International organization**: senior officials of international organisations.

* **Include relatives and close associates (RCA)**: also screens family members and close associates, not only the politically exposed persons themselves.

### Adverse Media & Enforcements

* **Keywords**: publications containing these keywords are flagged, including enforcement actions such as fines, penalties and supervisory measures. Business Radar maintains a default keyword set per language; you can disable defaults you don't need and add your own. Keywords are matched in the original language of each publication, so they are managed per language, with separate counts for default, custom and excluded keywords. A custom keyword can apply to all entities, to persons only, or to companies only.

* **Disable partial name matches for persons**: prevents incomplete person names from producing a hit, so only full name matches count. For example, "Martin L" would no longer match "Martin Luther".

* **Enforcement sources**: choose which regulator enforcement sources are included as adverse media hits.

### Linked / Owned Entity

Applies to company screenings only.

* **Confidence threshold**: the minimum confidence before a finding is shown, with a default of 60%. Lower values return more findings, including weaker signals.

* **Relationship types**: all types are screened by default. Switch off any you don't want to produce a finding.

    *   **Wholly state-owned**: 100% government ownership.

    * **Majority state-owned**: government holds more than 50%.

    * **Minority state-owned**: government stake of 50% or less.

    * **State-controlled**: government control, such as a golden share or board control, without clear majority ownership.

    * **Government-linked**: reported government ties without established ownership.

### Industry Risk

* **Include Industry Risk in screening**: when off, Industry Risk shows as "Not included" on new compliance checks.

* **Industry code overrides**: industry risk follows Business Radar's standard classification by default. An override replaces the rating for one industry code; every other industry keeps its standard rating. You can add codes or reset back to the standard classification.

### World Risk

* **Include World Risk in screening**: when off, World Risk shows as "Not included" on new compliance checks.

* **Country risk overrides**: country risk follows Business Radar's country risk data by default. An override replaces the rating for one country; every other country keeps its standard rating.

## Change history

Every change is recorded in **Change history**, an audit trail of who changed which setting and when.
