Changing your alert settings
Last updated View as Markdown
Your alerts are meant to stay useful over time. As your portfolios and priorities change, it helps to review whether the alerts you receive are still relevant, and adjust the filters so they inform you about exactly what you need to know.
If you haven't created an alert yet, start with Setting up alerts.
How do I change my alert settings?
Access alerts: Go to the "Alerts" tab to see your existing alerts.
Open the alert you want to adjust by clicking the pen symbol.
Adjust any part of the alert: your company selection, content filters, exclusion filters, and delivery settings can all be changed. Each of these is explained step by step in Setting up alerts. The number next to each section shows how much is currently selected, which helps you spot an alert that has grown too broad.
Check the alert frequency estimate before saving. Based on the articles found in the last 30 days for your selection, it shows how many articles you can expect per day, per week, and per month — useful for telling whether your change made the alert too broad or too narrow.
Save your changes.
Receiving too many alerts? Narrow the sentiment, media type, or country filters, exclude specific categories or companies, or switch on Material articles only to limit the alert to significant developments. The frequency estimate shows the effect of each change before you save.
Not receiving the alerts you expect? Check that the alert still covers the right portfolio or companies, and that your filters aren't excluding the news you're looking for.
Managing your alerts
On the Alerts tab, each alert has three actions:
Subscribe: receive a colleague's alert yourself. You cannot subscribe to your own alerts.
Edit (pen symbol): open the alert and change its settings.
Delete: remove the alert.
Use the Select User dropdown to see the alerts of a specific colleague, and the search box to find an alert by name.
What do the filters mean?
| Filter | What it does |
|---|---|
| Material articles only | Limit the alert to news significant enough to affect how a company is evaluated — developments that could materially affect its financial position, operations, or risk profile. |
| Categories | Receive alerts for news classified under a certain category. Categories are grouped under Risk and ESG, and each can be expanded into subcategories. |
| Media type | Choose between Gazette, All, or Mainstream sources. |
| Sentiment | Use the slider to receive only negative news, all news, or only positive news. |
| Countries | Only receive news from specific countries you choose. |
| Languages | Only receive news in specific languages you choose. |
| Search query | Enter search terms to further filter the articles in your alert. |
To exclude content rather than filter it, use the Exclusion Filters section, where you can exclude specific categories or companies.
What do the different categories entail?
Categories are grouped under Risk and ESG. The top-level categories are:
Corporate Communications & Governance
Corporate Strategy & M&A
Crisis & Physical Disasters
Environment, Social & ESG
Financial Crime, Fraud & Compliance
Financial Management & Capital Markets
Human Capital & Workplace
Industry & Market Trends
Legal, Regulatory & Government
Operations, Technology & Cyber
Political & Macroeconomic Environment
Real Estate & Infrastructure
Supply Chain & Logistics
Each category expands into subcategories — for example, Corporate Communications & Governance includes Corporate Ethics, Ethics Violation, Reputation Risk, and Shareholder Sentiment, among others. Expand a category with the arrow next to it, or use the search box above the list to find a specific subcategory.
